If I purchase a garment that isn’t the right size what do I do?
Wool is a natural fibre and therefore has a degree of flexibility to it. If a jumper is slightly too small give it a gentle stretch and this should loosen the fibres and the jumper should fit you. If however the sizing is still wrong we will be happy to replace your garment for one that would fit you better, once the garment is returned to us within 60 days of delivery complete with labels, swing tickets etc. Aran craft will pay the costs of delivery for the replacement product, BUT NOT the carrier costs incurred by the customer in returning the goods. PLEASE NOTE: Only items purchased directly from Arancrafts.com website with proof of order confirmation can be exchanged/refunded by arancrafts.com, items not purchased directly from our website must contact point of purchase.

What’s the best way to store my sweater?
Before you store a sweater it must be clean. The best way to store a sweater is in an airtight container.

How do I care for my new garment?
The golden rule is wash as seldom as possible and air frequently. We call this ‘wind-washing’, hang your garment out in the air and you will be amazed at how fresh it becomes. Never machine wash; they should be washed by hand using wool washing detergent and in cool water below 30 degrees Celsius. Always dry your jumper flat and never put in a tumble drier.

What about taxes and/or duties for orders to an address outside Ireland?
Any taxes and/or duties on your order will NOT be included in your online total. The carrier will charge the package recipient all applicable duty, taxes and/or brokerage fees at time of delivery. Since we do not charge, or collect these taxes, they won’t be included in your online total. Please contact your local customs office for more information regarding these charges.

How do I get rid of the sheep smell from my jumper?
Our jumpers are made from natural wool and therefore some may get a ‘sheep’ like smell. The best method to get rid of this smell is to hang the jumper on a clothes line outside. Another suggestion is to line your drawers with scented sheets. If you feel that you need to wash your jumper soak it in a cold hand wash liquid/powder for 3-5 minutes. Gently squeeze excess water off, never wring, twist or rub. To dry, roll the jumper in a towel to get rid of excess water. Pull into shape and dry flat.

How to stop moths from destroying my sweater?
Check your garments occasionally to make sure that you don’t have a moth or moisture problem. With proper care wool can be a durable and long lasting fibre. Always care for your garment following the instructions on the care label. Perspiration and food stains attract moths. Brushing your jumper with a wool brush can loosen eggs, and simply popping your jumper into the freezer before you store it will kill them. Another tip is to store your sweater in a sealed clean plastic bag. This will prevent moths from attacking it.
Be very careful if using moth balls and crystals as they may be harmful to children and pets.

What do the different stitches of the Aran sweater mean?
There are many stitches that make up Irish sweaters. They were passed down from mother to daughter and from generation to generation. Each stitch has a symbol and meaning. The main stitches are as follows:
Cable stitch: symbolises fisherman’s ropes and represents a wish for a fruitful day at sea.
Zigzag stitch: represents the cliffs of the island, or the ups and downs of life.
Diamond Stitch: Signifies the small farms throughout the island and some believe it represents wealth.
Trellis stitch: Represents the stone walls of Ireland.
Blackberry Stitch: Some believe that this has a link to religion.
Moss stitch: This is the symbol of nature all around us
Honeycomb stitch: This represents the hard working bee, signifying the hard work of the fisherman.
